Every person comes to a point in their life where they start to think about retirement – and then they are faced with the question “what now?” This home owner, with his love of colour and his flawless eye, decided to spend his time doing something constructive. The end result was a remarkable renovation in a quiet but beautiful Johannesburg suburb, where he managed to take a built-up structure and transform it into a labyrinthine home bursting with colour, light, interesting decor and the very best equipment available.

Inspired by a Balinese style, this home was built on a piece of land chosen for its vast size, as well as the security of the area around it. The expansive garden envelops the home in plush surroundings, and is guarded by Balinese statues. The vivid colours of the home are the first things that catch the eye – mimicking the hues of the surrounding flora and fauna with a beautiful resulting effect, and inviting you into the warm home.

The home is a two-storey structure, with five en suite bedrooms. Each of the bedrooms has a different colour scheme – from bright green and lime to purple, blue, aquamarine, orange and yellow. Bold red is also a predominant colour throughout this home. Each of the bedrooms also has a fish tank for an additional burst of colour. In this house you won’t find spaces that look alike.

There are three living areas in this home. Leather furniture, wood and glass were used for warm spaciousness and chic comfort. One of the living areas also has a fireplace – the beautiful hearth for this home, adding yet more warmth. The stone cladding walls echo the Balinese theme, and small ornaments and finishing touches complete the space. Stylish hanging lights are used to introduce radiance, and well-placed mirrors create a more spacious feeling in the luxurious abode.

The home also has a very well equipped, modern and open-plan kitchen, leading on to a separate scullery, for all the home owner’s culinary needs.
