The owners of this family home in Johannesburg had their hearts set on this property, built in 1972 by a well-known architect, but it needed extensive restoration. “It is one of only a handful of residential homes he designed,” says the owner. “We knew this was a special building that needed to be saved from the wrecking ball.”
The owners wanted to restore the original home, virtually unchanged, to a new finish, referencing and respecting the original with a renovation and addition, yet opening up the house to contemporary family living, and providing some luxury in the master suite and a guest suite. “The final product blends the old and the new spectacularly,” says the owner.
