Commemorative Issue

“The last couple of weeks have given me amazing insight into the history behind SA Home Owner, which is now officially out of its teens and celebrating 20 years of excellence in publishing. As a newcomer to this magazine, it has been fascinating to see how trends have come and gone, and some re-emerged.
It’s also been intriguing to note the large number of advertisers who have supported us for many years, and some even from day 1. I would like to thank you all for your valued support and am pleased that we have been able to form such beneficial partnerships.
I know also that there are many of you who have been loyal readers over the years, and many who have boxes and boxes of SA Home Owner in your storerooms. I hope this remarkable issue will add some sparkle to your collection and be a source of great inspiration to you.
I’d welcome feedback on this, our 20th Anniversary Commemorative Issue. I hope you gain as much enjoyment out of this as the team has had in putting it together.” Sally Hudson, Business manager of SA Home Owner.

“My office is a mess, and has been for months. There is STUFF piled high on every surface, even the floor. Every time I walk in or out, and this could be many, many times in a day as we go about our business of putting your favourite magazine to print – checking an article with the writing team, signing off proofs in the art department, running through the pagination with production, conferring with Robyn and her sales team, looking for office help from Matapelo, or brainstorming ideas with Kerry, my unbelievably efficient right hand whose office is mere steps from mine – I do a little dance around chairs, files and magazines, and have certainly tripped over a few.
But it’s all for a good cause, and as much as the muddle has been hard for this neat freak to handle, researching our special 20th Anniversary Commemorative Issue has been a real pleasure, and we’ve learned so much. We have sat on the floor poring over dusty tomes that haven’t been flipped through for years. We’ve chuckled at some of the “hot new” trends of times gone by, and been amazed that others endure today. We’ve come up with some really fascinating articles for your interest, and we’ve spent hours sifting through volumes of paper featuring countless inspirational properties to agree on a selection of the Top 20 Homes of the past two decades.
Getting this collector’s item on to shelves has been quite a ride. But of all the things we’ve learned, these two stand out: one, for 20 years SA Home Owner has serviced the South African home owner with distinction, and plans to do so for many more years to come, and two, we have quite a phenomenal team!” Joy Capon, managing editor of SA Home Owner.
