The home owners wanted to create a homely environment that would offer pockets of conversation in different living areas.Jan Lewis of Design Union says his clients were happy with a low-key Tuscan feel that combined subtly with Cape Dutch architectural styles and authentic furniture typically found in Cape homes.
The roof and windows were easy to change, as enlarged window spaces were transformed into sash windows.
Shutters Cape installed contemporary-style shutters that enhanced the exterior beauty of the area. Specific requests translated into some wonderful solutions, such as the wine cellar that evolved from transforming an alcove with a counter, into a refrigerated wine cellar with a magnificent glass vault door.
The beautiful swimming pool, often a headache in renovations, proved to be the conversation area the clients desired. Jan says that as it turned out, the cove as well as the swimming area fell perfectly into place with the new design that incorporated a table rising above the waterline, complete with a fitted and removable umbrella that can be submerged into the water when closing it for heating purposes.
Adding to the existing luxury of this sleek pool is the innovative covering system that was installed by PowerPlastics Pool Covers to provide additional heat.
Once inside this beautiful home, the large living spaces exude a warm ambience, created by a wonderful collection of African artefacts, and discerning selections of interior fittings, finishes and furniture.
The innovative suspension of beautiful chandeliers over pedestals expresses a warm glimmer in bedrooms. Providing additional warmth is an elegant Jetmaster fireplace that circulates heat throughout the living areas. The impressive collection of original artwork adorning these walls was selected by a specialist art dealer, and provides a fine aesthetic balance to complement the elegant furniture.
