How To

How to dress your small space

More and more people are opting to live in smaller homes and apartments and often find it a challenge to style their interiors with such limited space to work with.

Furniture Buyer Anna Weylandt, daughter of Weylandts founder and owner Chris Weylandt, shares her top tips on creating the illusion of space while incorporating the Weylandts aesthetic into your home.

1. Incorporate the Weylandts core values into your space by focusing on quality and materials. “Start with the necessities and invest in pieces one at a time. Personally, I would always suggest starting with a beautiful leather sofa such as the iconic Marconi,” says Anna.

2. Paint one wall darker than the others. This accent wall will create the illusion that the wall is set further back than it is in reality, Anna suggests keeping it in the grey family. “Too much colour in a small space can draw attention to furniture and other items that are taking up space so keep it simple and in layers of neutral tones.”

3. Focus on simple, clean lines to create a more spacious illusion. “Weylandts offers many different lifestyles, however my suggestion for smaller spaces would be to stick within the Modernist Lifestyle which offers Scandinavian inspired pieces that lend themselves to small spaces,” says Anna who uses the Rod range as well as the Edgar Chair as great examples.

4. Aim for furniture that has thin legs or a floating effect to make it look like you have more floor space.

5. Use a carpet to add excitement but ensure you get the size right. Using something too small will not look right, you want a carpet that can go under your larger furniture pieces so that the floor space appears bigger. Circular rugs are a great way to achieve this effect.
