This abode was designed by the architect as a total departure from what was originally a modern home 10 years ago. The client says his top priority was to minimise the number of interior walls to create a transparent living environment.
He was adamant that both the ocean and mountain views of this prize location had to be visible from the master bedroom, and in so doing, walls and structures had to be removed. A stunning room was created with perfect flow, where the dressing room, bathroom and bedroom were incorporated into a seamless space while maximising the views.
The old staircase was transformed into a wide and ultra-modern feature, complete with glass balustrades. A fabulous upstairs lounge and patio were created. Sliding doors provided the ultimate solution to saving space, as well as framing the panoramic views of the Hermanus coastline.
Interior designer, Isabel Coetzee of In-tu-it Signature Concepts, says the redesign of the kitchen was essential to create an open-plan living area. She says that her client’s specification of a minimalist approach, coupled with generous proportions of neutral tones and textures, was achieved. By using beautiful pieces of art produced by the client’s family, elegant touches of colour were added.
As a second home, this wonderful abode offers everything and more for enjoying weekends and holidays on a beautiful mountainside near the ocean.
