Out And About

Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff

Written by Janine Jorgensen

Over the past year I’ve been back in South Africa, and in particular Johannesburg, I really appreciate the sunsets in this country, and I’ve discovered one of the best places to enjoy dusk in the city is at the Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff.

Whether it’s from one of the hotel’s rooms’ balconies or terrace of the Flames restaurant, with mandatory drink in hand, and looking out over the treetops, you won’t be disappointed.

Of course, it’s not just beautiful vistas that the hotel offers. The rooms are luxurious, with the decor inspired by the setting, featuring contemporary design with African prints and local artists’ work. The room’s private bar is generous, and there’s an espresso machine for a morning coffee in the comfy king bed while reading the complimentary newspaper that’s delivered to your door. While the rooms also have mod-cons, including a media hub with Wi-Fi and an entertainment system, there’s also old-fashioned grandeur in which to indulge, such as the marble bathroom with his and hers vanity units, large bath tub and rain shower, down duvets and thick terry robes.

If you decide to leave the comfort of your room, I can recommend making time for some relaxation at the Spa (the Afrique In Harmony Balancing Massage is a must), and don’t miss trying the signature Martinis at the View bar, which also offers a fine dining experience accompanied by, as it name suggests, magnificent views.

What would be a hotel stay without the breakfast, and the spread is a real treat, from the more healthy smoothies and fresh fruit, to decadent pastries and various cooked options.

The incredibly friendly staff really want to promote Jo’burg as more than just a stopover for visitors, and can arrange for guests to enjoy some of the city’s highlights, although with the hotel’s location and amenities, sunset included, they really don’t have to venture far to take in the best of Jozi.
