Quirky meets classic

The home owner of this classically influenced home had never undertaken a build from scratch before, but feels the process, although difficult at the time, was well worth it. “The home that was originally on the stand had burnt down, so we really bought it for the location. Building is great in that you can really get everything you want.”

Built as the ultimate family home, the open-plan living area is enclosed by glass doors that open up onto the pool area, so the living area and TV lounge can become the patio space. “This setup allows the kids to be running around outside while I am inside getting on with things, but we’re still all together as a family,” explains the home owner. “The kids love spending time outdoors.”

The garden perfectly complements the interior. “We wanted to try to achieve the English rose-garden feel, as I think it goes well with the style of the house,” she adds.

When it came to the interiors of the home, antique wooden furniture was combined with modern architecture and a country-style kitchen. Furniture and quirky decor items have been collected by the family over the years, and provide a cohesive impression of a comfortable family home where nothing is too precious, but everything is meaningful.

With six bedrooms, four of which are en suite, the large stand was a big attraction for the home owners. “It’s also close to good schools, and we loved the fact that it was in a well-established, treed area.”
