Rejuvenation ideal (with extra pics)

The ideal location of this house, on the eastern slopes of Cape Town’s Table Mountain and neighbouring Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, was the motivating factor behind its total rejuvenation.

The owners say that one of their reasons for moving to Constantia was to achieve a quiet lifestyle of peace and tranquillity. This property offered them a two-acre garden with a stream passing through it that could be restored for the family’s enjoyment of the magnificent outdoors, and bird’s eye view of the panoramic mountain views.

By knocking down the small single-storey house built here previously, it created a perfect central position for the owners’ new abode. The house was planned and built by T3 Construction which managed the project over a one-year period. Design elements such as a Mazista slate roof combined with plaster mouldings, columns and sash windows, were incorporated into the construction.

The practical and aesthetically pleasing building design allows the family to enjoy outdoor entertainment in a centralised pool and enclosed patio area, all within close proximity to interior comforts such as the sumptuous kitchen. Caroline Hut of Inside Living says that her job as the designer of the kitchen was an absolute pleasure, since her client knew exactly what was needed to achieve a fully functional kitchen, as well as having an extraordinarily large floor plan at her disposal.

The design had to incorporate practical spaces such as a homework area for the children in close enough proximity to the food preparation and cooking areas. This local custom- designed and manufactured kitchen offers full functionality with combinations of solid timber and tiled flooring while accommodating luxury appliances and generous storage space.

This house offers generous open spaces that flow easily between lounges and informal home theatre areas, through to the bedroom suites where bathrooms in generous proportions enhance the relaxed ambience.

Individual members of the household can listen to their favourite music through the sophisticated Classe audio system anywhere in the house, and enjoy home entertainment through state of the art equipment, that includes video distribution to three home theatres that were installed by HFX Systems’ Custom Electronic Design Installation Association– accredited professionals.

It has to be said that coming home to the lush greenery of this prize-winning garden and wonderful home must generate copious amounts of wellbeing.
