Situated in the heart of Sandton, this plush Johannesburg home exudes classic luxury with a contemporary twist.

With a blank canvas and a few chosen furniture pieces, Wanda Handlow, the managing and creative director of Wanda-Michelle Interiors (WMI), designed and customised the furniture and finishes of this house turning it into a home fit for a queen.

After viewing a previous project that WMI executed, the owner of this home knew that she wanted WMI to work on the interiors of her home. A brief was given to Wanda and her team that specified creating a space that is reflective of the owner – elegant and sophisticated.

“This motivated us to do what we do best – ‘Define Self Within’,” Wanda explains as she quotes WMI’s slogan, which has set the foundation for how the company treats each project that it undertakes. Wanda adds: “Our client became our inspiration and therefore this home is a true reflection of who the owner is.”

With the above in mind, the home echoes attributes of sophistication and elegance, mirroring the owner while creating a timeless appeal. Some of the features that were used to obtain the required style include a double-volume entrance with a custom-made chandelier that has been created from five large wire mesh balls, which allow for a shimmering play on light and shadow in the evenings; the formal lounge that has beautifully crafted custom pieces of furniture that draw inspiration from the circular and oval shapes visible in the wallpaper and decor such as the Tom Dixon bronze copper shades. And as much as this home has been designed to reflect the owner, the personal design approach was carried throughout the house to ensure that the rest of the family had individual spaces that represented them as well.

The childrens’ bedrooms – furnished with fun and colourful pieces from Mokki – offer them a place where their personalities can shine through, one that they can call their “own”.

Designed and furnished to reflect the family that resides here, this home is the ultimate example of what a great relationship between client and interior designer will result in.
