Having had their eye on one of Durban’s elite golf estates for some time, it was down to a fortuitous turn of events that led these owners to build this elegant and spacious home.

“While we were in our previous house, a lady arrived at our door one morning and asked if she could buy our house – with an offer too good to refuse!” Having built their last three homes, these owners knew exactly what they were looking for and made a beeline to their favourite estate.

The plot was chosen for its generous parking and for the fact that no neighbouring houses were positioned in front or behind. In keeping with the style of the estate, the exterior is an earthy mix of slate tiles, warm-grey render, aged brickwork and painted clapboard. As you enter, the atrium-style dining area acts as the central link to the rest of the home, with kitchen and TV lounge off to one side, and bar and formal lounge to the other.

Fully glazed doors were introduced opposite the entrance to purposely draw your eye to the glorious sun patio, complete with pool and magnificent views of the golf course beyond. Combining their interior tastes, the owners have achieved a harmonious blend of modern finishes, such as the pale tiled floors and the crisp white worktops in both kitchen and bar, with rich wooden floors and furniture that displays a more tailored, classical edge.

Not only pleasing to the eye, the home is also designed to be functional too.

The bar area extends outside and can be accessed via the sliding windows, so, whatever the weather, there is no need to compromise when entertaining.

This home may be large in scale, but as the owner puts it, “although spacious, it does not feel cavernous”. Designed to cater for both family time and time for the grown-ups, this home has everything the owners need.
