Turning old into new

With no particular style in mind, other than that the home had to be modern yet timeless, the renovations began. “We were looking for a bigger family home with a big garden and a beautiful view of the mountains,” says the owner. By using existing structures, the classic home was created.

They opted to decorate the home themselves instead of using an interior decorator. “We decided on a very plain interior, to which we can add colour and make changes as we please,” says the owner.

With huge windows and a patio, the bedroom has become the firm favourite. “Our bedroom is the best room in the house. We can lie in bed and see the mountains. We have a patio off the bedroom where we can sit in the sun and enjoy our morning coffee, while enjoying the view,” she says. And speaking of coffee, the kitchen is a sleek, modern affair that looks onto the dining area. The appliances are all state-of-the-art, from the gas stove to the coffee machine. The lounge is decorated with comfortable sofas, as well as an eye-catching centrepiece that serves as a coffee table. The fireplace is unobtrusive and creates a comfortable reading nook.

“We were blown away when it was finally completed – the house is beautiful,” the owner says.

“My advice is to go with what you will feel happy with for the rest of your life, especially if this is the home you wish to retire in. Remember, building your dream house is only as hard as you make it, so just do it!”
