Vineyard elegance

By Sherneen Dayaram, Project Consultants and Property Coordinators Debbie Zeelie and Wadoeda Brenner, Photography Shelley Christians

This elegant home is part of a vineyard estate which requires all houses to be built in a Cape vernacular style. But there is something quite unique about it, in that it allows for easy living, but with a formal appeal.

The vision for the house was an open-plan design, with easy flow, high ceilings, exposed trusses and the kitchen as a focal point. The verandahs allow for unobtrusive vineyard views and offer protection from the elements. The location of the house was chosen for the breathtaking view of the vineyard and Table Mountain.

Three bedrooms with en suites, a study, entrance hall, guest restroom, wine room, kitchen, scullery, pantry, lounge and dining area, indoor braai area and two covered verandahs allow the family abundant space in which to live and entertain in comfort. The decor theme can be described as “eclectic French tranquil’, and although an interior decorator was used, the style was based on personal taste and preference. The home owner cleverly created an uncluttered interior with a few accent pieces.

The kitchen is certainly a focal point of the home. The cupboard doors and gleaming splashback are contrasted by a bold, maroon stove and extractor hood. The kitchen is both functional and beautiful, and is a well-used area of the home. The lounge is sophisticated and elegant, with hues of grey and neutral tones. A comfortable and homely ambience is enhanced with soft lighting, while the chandelier gives the room an element of grandeur. A wood-burning fireplace in the living area will be well-used in winter.

The main bedroom with its high ceilings and neutral colour palette is tastefully decorated, and the walk-in closet is stylishly designed with floor-to-ceiling cupboards. The main bathroom has twin basins, a spacious white shower and tub, ornate mirrors and wooden cabinets.

A special feature of this home is a well-stocked wine room on the first floor, which allows excellent views of the lounge and rooms below. Sophisticated and modern, it makes one feel part of the vineyard, a theme continued in the outdoor patio area, and throughout the home.
