10 inspiring steampunk spaces

Written by Shereen Lurie

Characterised by the juxtaposition of steam-powered machinery and old fashioned Victorian charm, the Steampunk movement has captured the imagination of designers the world over. You can find excellent examples of this design ethos in the South African coffee shop, Truth Coffee and the home of upcycling personality Sacha Olivier, where nostalgic pieces of furniture are given an edgy, industrial feel to generate interest and contemporary charm.

Think copper piping, exposed lightbulbs, an upcycled barber’s chair, chequered floor tiles and plush, deep-buttoned velvet sofas and you’ll have a good idea of what this look encapsulates. Are you a fan? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
