Kids Rooms

A child’s world

Lately, I’ve been noticing a lot of décor and design stories that focus on the kids – from designing bedroom spaces to school study rooms in the home.

What I’m finding is that parents are becoming a great deal more in tune with their kids’ tastes and preferences when it comes to colours, themes and décor trends.

In the bedroom, themes that echo through include their favourite cartoon or the ever popular Disney type theme. Mystical worlds of fairies and goblins, comic heroes and even biker mice from outer space, not to mention growing interest in sports both nationally and internationally.

For older children, it’s a good thing for parents to consider their child’s study space. In my opinion, less is more should ideally be applied here. There’s nothing worse than a distraction of vivid colours or paraphernalia that keeps the eye on the wall and not on the books. I would also strongly recommend avoiding too much technology (aside from a PC or laptop) in order to minimize the distraction risk. For example, a TV and Xbox in the study will not result in good academics, but rather distracted students. That said, however, the space should still be fun. Your child must feel comofrtable in the room for maximum retention.

Home D-zine magazine reported that research shows that the sooner children begin to study, the earlier they begin to develop essential learning skills, and daily study instils a level of commitment and dedication to learning.

The online magazine adds that although you want to create a space for study, the bedroom also serves for relaxation and spending time with friends who come over and, while emphasis is on a place to study, look for a desk that also fulfils other requirements as well, such as plenty of storage.
