Designing a home, in particular a home unique to the characteristics and tastes of the owners, is no easy feat. A number of factors tend to dictate the style and appearance of a home, aside from the owners’ requirements.
As the home is on a corner stand close to the river, with no neighbours on the side, it was designed and orientated due north for all the bedrooms and entertainment areas to get the most of the surrounding views.
The home, open-plan in design and surrounded by an expanse of floor-to-ceiling windows, overlooks the immaculate green areas with dams and walkways, providing the residents with not only magnificent views from the upper level, but also creating a free-flowing, serene ambience throughout the living spaces. What makes this home distinct from those around it is the ingenious use of the roof structures.
“We love different roof structures and we wanted something different from the usual Tuscan or Bali look – not too modern but a style that will last,” say the owners.
As such AIF Design Architects incorporated the double-eave design – 1 200mm wide – to keep the sun off the windows, while simultaneously providing the owners with the contemporary yet unique style they were hoping for.
On entry, the home opens up to an inviting public space, showcasing a skylight providing ample light and warmth to the room, while surrounded by an elegant yet contemporary double staircase.
“The central, double staircase serves as the ‘communication’ between private and semi-private spaces used every day,” explains the architect. The interior is an interesting blend of neutral-to-white palettes, mixing with vibrant soft furnishings to add colour to the sophisticated design element.
The exterior entertainment area, separate from the interior by fold-away stack doors, is equipped with a striking deck and generous pool providing for ample hours of enjoyment. The furnishings throughout the home display a luxurious yet comfortable style, while enhancing the ambience of each living space.
The playful yet elegant design of the home provides a distinct style for these residents to relax in. “Step by step with the architects, we achieved a dream come true,” say the owners.
