For many, the lure of coastal living is too strong to ignore. Already based in greater Durban, this family decided to close the gap completely and bought a plot on the well-known Umhlanga coastline, favoured by holidaymakers for its beautiful beaches, quality restaurants and year-round sunshine.
Happy to be guided by their architect and interior designer, the owners set a simple brief for a modern, yet classic home. Everything about the home says “grandeur”, from the double-height entrance with its facebrick detailing and cascading lights to the endless views of the deep-blue Indian Ocean.
The main entrance boasts two dramatic staircases that wind their way up to the first floor. Solid kiaat treads blend with the brick background, adding warmth and texture. In the main lounge, a contemporary take on exposed beams is where you will find the main lights.
