As a home is a reflection of those who dwell in it, great care needs to be taken to ensure that every consideration and stipulation set by the home owner is followed to the last detail. Through careful and concise planning, Gardiol Bergenthuin Architects successfully delivered a home that exceeded the expectations of the residents.

The style of this home is contemporary and modular-cubist, with focus on a clean and uncluttered appearance throughout the interior. Almost barnlike in appearance with pitched roofs as per the estate’s regulations, the home subtly becomes one with its surroundings, blending immaculately with the horizon and low maintenance garden. The rich earthy browns fade away while the green of the chimneys adds to the tranquil feel of the home overall.

The home boasts simplicity in form and excellent use of space with uncomplicated lines and functional designs. The spaciousness is further enhanced by the extensive use of colour throughout the home. Opting to furnish the home themselves, the residents preferred to fill their home with unusual pieces, or design pieces themselves and have them made up in the style and fabrics of their choice. “We love bright, vibrant colour,” explain the home owners. “We love things that have an edge to them, that are different from the norm.”

Strong and vibrant colours adorn the main bedrooms and bathrooms with greens, yellows and oranges being the predominant hues. “The visibility throughout our home allows for a feeling of being in touch and to see the whole home at once,” explain the home owners.

The kitchen, while predominately black and white in hue, continues the vibrant colour theme with green panels creating a striking colour combination, perforating the otherwise refined ambience of this particular room.

The entertainment area boasts ample space with the balcony, situated above the covered terrace, being sleek and elegant in design, punctuated by bursts of colour through the ingenious use of soft furnishings. This gives the space a relaxed yet vibrant ambience. The deck surrounding the pool complements the exterior hues contributing to the barnlike ambience of the home.

“As we knew what we wanted we were very specific about the look we were after; we avoided taking friends and family to the site, limiting influence by others that may put doubt in our minds which may have lead to indecisiveness. Everything worked out just as we had planned,” say the residents.
