This home, which overlooks lush, beautiful surroundings with a dam as its focal point, provides these home owners with a view of the striking surroundings in conjunction with the quiet intimacy of the privacy it allows.

“We wanted our home to look like a farmhouse, built on one level,” says the owner, who adds that they bought the stand because of the view of the dam in front of the house, exuding an open, spacious feeling. Both architecture and decor lend themselves to this idea, with many aspects contributing to the beauty and uniqueness of the home.

Stone cladding is one such aspect that creates this effect. The subtle yet effective offset of dark and light colours that can be seen in the stone cladding further enhances the stylishly elegant appeal of this home. This effect also runs as a central theme, starting from the exterior and moving into the home. The owner notes that the decor theme was not planned, but rather the structure of house inspired them to go with the flow of the home. She notes that “it was as if the house led us”. This direction saw the use of bright, bold reds set against earthy, neutral tones creating a modern and traditional dichotomy.

This is further enhanced through choices of contemporary artwork, plush and swathe fabrics, warm lighting as well as the ample use of wood.

Through the farmhouse-style theme – echoed throughout the home, from the foundation of the floors to the ceilings and high trusses – the openness is reflected. The home owners enjoy the open-plan spaciousness that allows all areas of the home to be integrated, and all aspects seem to blend into one – from the amazing views of the exterior right through to the functional, warm elegance of the interiors.
