Nature’s play with pattern, texture and colour was the inspiration for this spacious house, envisaged as a country retreat.

In choosing their ideal home, the owners were driven by two factors: the first is their busy and varied social life, and the second was their desire to leave behind the stress of the city. The solution? A house on the urban edge, with space to host plenty of guests.

“The house we ultimately chose is the closest we could get to country living without being too far from the hustle and bustle,” the owner explains. The property’s physical situation in one of the few Johannesburg locales to remain resistant to urban sprawl helps to create a suitably bucolic setting, while the amenities provided by the estate – including a club house, golf course, village green and horse riding facilities – help too.
