Aside from designing and decorating interiors, my “meditation” is re-inventing neglected items of furniture with water-based paints, beeswax and wallpapers. I call this my “Found & Fixed” range, which you can view on my blog.
The reason I’m telling you this is because I spent a great deal of time sourcing products, which met my credentials of utilising “green” products that would not be harmful to me and not detrimental to the environment. So it’s with a big smile on my face that I discover that Annie Sloan Chalk Paint is finally arriving on SA shores this very month!
Chalk Paint is the go-to paint if you hate to prep a piece of furniture and are after instant results. Annie Sloan, who resides in Oxford, UK, developed Chalk Paint in 2000 to fill a gap in the market for a water-based paint that would adhere to most surfaces without hours of sanding and stripping. Annie also produced a range of waxes to provide the correct protection and enhancement to the furniture it’s applied to. The name was given due to the chalky, matt nature of the paint, which makes it a favourite among decorators. Even more so if you are a fan of the shabby chic look, which is achieved by applying the dark wax over the paint to instantly “age” a piece.
Annie is a global phenomenon with stockists worldwide, and luckily for us, July is the month that Chalk Paint will be available in SA as well as workshops to show you how to use and apply this product. (Check out the website for venues and dates across the country.)
Even though I’m a Brit, I’m sorry to say that I’ve never tried Annie Sloan paints. I’m not so drawn to the chic look, but I’m told that by no means is this paint only for such results, so I too will be trying it out for the first time with bated breath! With such stunning colours to choose from, and great guidance from the Annie Sloan SA, you must try this out for yourselves and let me know how you get on!
