‘Art House’ by Sarah Davidson

Written by Jess Binns

Based in Sydney, Australia, interior designer Sarah Davidson has been carving out her professional career since 1998.

Sarah runs with the ethos that not unlike a good suit in the fashion world, interiors too should be timeless – as long as they are well proportioned, employ good materials and suit the people they are designed for.

One of her recent projects was a 20-year-old Sydney home based in the suburb of Balmoral for a family with three teenage daughters.

One of the starting points for Sarah was the client’s spectacular artwork collection. Bold without being brash, the outcome of this home is indeed timeless with strong statements of charcoal and deep greys to off-set the stylish furnishings and the abstract paintings.

A particular favourite interior detail of mine is shown here with the painting of the windows and skirting boards in the same colour as the wall. The effect can be very dramatic, for example the off-white curtains against the black walls.

Another beautiful detail is the black marble splashback behind the stove in the kitchen, which brings contrast and texture to the kitchen as well as the stainless steel worktops. And the exterior is just as drool-worthy as the interior!

Best wishes,

Jess from Hector and Bailey
