The brief for this home was fairly simple: transform a once ordinary and mundane-looking beach home into a contemporary and vibrant living space. “The aim was to create a spectacular yet functional living space suitable for a holiday home with a homely ambience,” explains interior decorator Michael Prinsloo, of Michael Prinsloo Designs (MPD).
While the home is predominantly open-plan in design, clear and specific boundaries of the public spaces are well defined through the careful placement of each furnishing. In terms of the fabrics used throughout these spaces, Michael decided to stick to a softer, more neutral palette so as not to detract from the beauty of the gorgeous sea view. Muted, earthy hues fill the interior of the home, celebrating bringing nature indoors, which was further enhanced by the use of natural wood throughout.
The kitchen, continuing the neutral theme, is punctuated by the latest in silver appliances, and flows beautifully into the lounge providing a sense of unity, as the lounge adds a contemporary feel to the structure and is decked with furniture that exudes comfort and style.
The bedrooms reflect the style and theme evident throughout the home, adopting a simplistic and minimalistic approach void of clutter, while still maintaining a luxurious and opulent feel.
The use of shutters throughout the home ensures a constant natural light source, whether from sunshine or moonlight, providing a plethora of illumination to the interior spaces. Closely following the interior decor, the balcony furniture further enhances the aesthetic appeal, drawing residents and future guests outside to sit and converse in the greatest comfort and luxury while enjoying the gorgeous South African climate.
As is typical of southern hemisphere style, the house is equipped with a sparking clear-blue pool surrounded by well-chosen outdoor furniture – perfect for hours of entertaining.
