Bathroom revamp

By Daniela Sperotto

A renaissance has long been in progress, transforming bathrooms from functional and minimalistic to luxurious and comfortable.

No matter whether you are revamping your old bathroom or creating a masterpiece from scratch, there is no doubt that bathroom furniture goes beyond necessity, and adds a touch of lavishness, guaranteeing individual flair and style.

Modern styles are unusual, irregular shapes and dimensions. There are a few practicalities to take into consideration prior to embarking on creating your ultimate utopia. Positioning of furniture is essential, and should be determined during planning. Similarly, the atmosphere of your bathroom is dependant on your finishings and fittings so should be in keeping with the rest of the house.

Keeping in mind that these furnishings are going to be in the bathroom, good ventilation is essential, but more importantly, materials of furnishings must be considered. Phia van der Meulen, from M Square Lifestyle Design, suggests that upholstered furniture should be a water-resistant fabric or positioned far away from direct contact with water. Leather and wood are common but must be treated against moisture damage.

Including a rug in your design is the perfect way to create a cosy, happy bathroom. As with the furniture, you will need to be quite specific on the type of rug you buy for the bathroom, making sure it is mould and mildew resistant, easy to clean, and loosely knotted to permit ventilation.

Revamping your bathroom by adding a touch of chic furniture should reflect your personality and demonstrate your enjoyment of the space. Your bathroom should feel like an extension of your house, that perfect hideaway where you can relax and rejuvenate.
