Bathrooms Kids Rooms

Bathtime fun

Children love having a special place of their own, so why not create a bathroom that is specifically made to meet their needs?

Experts from Hansgrohe explain that, when planning the bathroom, practicality is always essential. Separating the shower and bath is useful when children of varying ages are sharing a bathroom, enabling an older child to shower while the other is supervised using the bath.

Safety is probably the most important consideration for this space. Professionals from On Tap add: “Look for taps and mixers that have temperature-control settings. This will ensure that water temperature never reaches a dangerous heat.” Sharp edges should also be avoided when possible, and with this in mind, look out for more rounded sanitaryware products to minimise injury. As with all bathrooms, non-slip floors are also important, but more so in a bathroom used by a child.

Height should be taken into consideration – wall-mounted toilet bowls have the advantage of being able to be mounted at a lower height. Wall-mounted flush plates are great, as children like pressing buttons, but they are also available in various sizes and colours.

When it comes to decorating the space, Jenni Kirstein of Lindy van Niekerk Art Gallary explains: “The world looks very different through a child’s eyes, and for this reason it’s imperative for the child to be involved in the ultimate design process of a bathroom.” It is not advisable to use glass-framed art, as heat and steam could enter the painting and cause mildew. For this reason, a painting done on canvas or board with oil or acrylic paint is best.

Creating a bathroom specifically designed for children can be a great process for both parent and child.
