Changing just a few things to a home can completely update its look. That’s what the owners of this coastal getaway found after their interior designer transformed a dark house into an entertainer’s paradise.

“Our initial brief was for something French, Provençal, beachy, light and modern – and we got the complete opposite,” the owner laughs. That’s not to say he’s upset with the outcome; quite the opposite. “The home now is a sheer pleasure. We feel very lucky,” he says.

One of the most significant changes made to the house was to invite more light in. Given its east-facing orientation, this was important, as the house had previously felt a little gloomy at times – hence the decision to install aluminium-framed windows with large frames.

Next, the main bedroom underwent a metamorphosis. “The house was built in the 1990s, so the configuration felt outdated,” the owner said.
