Big Bottle Festival 2014

The Big Bottle Festival is South Africa’s most prestigious annual wine tasting and gourmet food festival, and is one of only two events of its kind worldwide. Now in its fourth year, the event celebrates South Africa’s finest big bottle format masterpieces.

Unique in concept and execution, this indulgent affair brings together 40 of South Africa’s foremost winemakers and five of the country’s top ‘chefs de cuisine’. The luxurious Taj Hotel in Cape Town is host to this year’s Big Bottle Festival which takes place on the weekend of the 29 & 30 August 2014.

The Big Bottle Festival kicks off on Friday evening with an exclusive Gourmand Dinner.  Discerning guests will experience exceptional food paired with an extensive selection of wines.

The Gourmand Dinner themed “My Love & My Mistress” which eludes to sommelier Jörg Pfützner’s passion for both Riesling and Pinot Noir, will feature the world’s most acclaimed within these two cultivar categories.

The indulgent Big Bottle Walk-About & Tasting experience on Saturday 30 August affords guests the opportunity to sample specialty dishes crafted by a few of South Africa’s leading chefs.

Wine producer participation to the Big Bottle Festival is strictly by invitation and includes premier wine estates such as Hamilton Russell Vineyards, Paul Cluver, Jordan Vineyard & Winery, Luddite, Raats Family, Mullineaux Family Wines and Cape Point Vineyards, amongst others.

This indulgent food and wine affair is presented as four themes: ‘Modern Classics, ‘Champagne & Sparkling Wines’, ‘Wines of Elegance’ and ‘Wild Ferment’ and will take place in the Taj Cape Town’s newest addition, The Reserve venue. The Reserve exudes a sense of elegance and opulence that is impossible to replicate in modern times.

The celebrity chef lineup this year includes names such as: Rudi Liebenberg (Mount Nelson), Gregory Czarnecki (Waterkloof Restaurant), Brad Ball (Steenberg’s Bistro 1682), Shyam Longani (Taj – Bombay Brasserie) and Christian Harbeck (Raith Gourmet).
