BRITA invented the first water filter for domestic use forty five years ago, and the family business has since become the global leader in home water filtration. Designed and manufactured in Germany, BRITA focuses on their vision ‘a world where drinking water of the highest quality is always available to everyone’. This is increasingly relevant as the world’s water resources are under greater pressure from urbanisation and industrialisation making fresh water becoming an increasingly scarce resource.
Our tap water in South Africa in no exception, and while it is still safe to drink in the sense that it is free of water borne diseases, it does contain substances that give it an unpleasant taste and smell. Chlorine is the most commonly used chemical in the water treatment process, and there is growing concern about the long-term health implications of exposure to trihalomethanes, which are carcinogenic by-products formed with organic compounds during this process. Other industrial pollutants such as heavy metals like lead, mercury and aluminium, as well as inorganic pesticides and fertilisers are found in our tap water in increasingly high concentrations, and can also adversely affect our health and wellbeing.
BRITA substantially reduces all of these substances, making your water taste great and giving you confidence in the quality of the water you and your family consume. It’s also a smart alternative to bottled water, an industry that has grown exponentially in the past twenty years and has rapidly become a massive burden on our environment. It also has an enormous carbon footprint due to the massive amounts of energy used in its production and transportation and the waste generated by discarded plastic bottles.
BRITA products are available at Boardmans, Clicks, Checkers Hypers and Supermarkets, Dischem pharmacies, Makro, Pick n Pay Hypers, Family Stores and Super Stores, Wellness Warehouse and online at yuppiechef.co.za and brita-water.co.za.
We’re giving away 5 Brita Marella XL (3.5 litre) water jugs to the value of R295 each. Enter by telling us why you think it’s a smarter move to buy a BRITA water filter instead of bottled water in the comments section below.

You save a fortune, the water tastes better and its more convenient.
September 26, 2011
I know that my family and I will be drinking quality unpolluted water. By using BRITA we know that we are contributing to a GREENER environment by reducing the amount of waste products that go into landfills and therefore also reducing our household carbon footprint.
September 26, 2011
you will not be leaving your carbon footprint when you buy a brita waterjug……..we are 4 people in our household, all drinking bottled water as Port Elizabeth water not safe to drink at the moment…and the empty bottles that get thrown into the rubbish, even if we do flatten them, still takes up space…
September 26, 2011
It is better as it is easier, and it is kinder to the environment by not using a plastic bottle and therefor reducing landfill.
September 26, 2011
I have found by using a Brita Water Jug the taste of urban water improves dramatically, and with great tasting water it is so much easier to ‘convince little people’ to drink it ova the likes of fizzy drinks etc ! So yea if you get that right how awesome for you kids and their future! And it also saved loads cash! Awesome product !
September 26, 2011
Cause it is just so much cheaper! Price of water killing me!!!!
September 26, 2011
To save loads of money. The water also tastes much better and it’s easier than constantly going to buy water bottles.
September 26, 2011
Unfortunately one cannot trust straight tap water any more and bottled water is so expensive and even bottled water is often contaminated
September 26, 2011
Even though I recycle, I like the idea of using less plastic.
September 26, 2011
BRITA is much cheaper than bottled water, taste better and don’t harm the environment.
September 27, 2011
By using Brita water filters, we avoid using plastic bottles which get thrown away all over the countryside, anyway. It’s cheaper and quicker to use.
September 27, 2011
By using a BRITA water filter you know your water has been properly purified. You save money and you’re not hurting the environment with unnecessary plastic water bottles. Healthy, safe water!
September 28, 2011
A small price to pay for an excellent product but a giant saving of unnecessary plastic in our enviroment.
September 28, 2011
You save alot of money, the water tastes better and its more convenient healthy, safe and its good for the enviroment! a Great product
September 28, 2011
Tastes better than bottled water, easy to use and easily accessable, right in your own home
September 29, 2011
It’s better for the environment, because less plastic bottles means smaller carbon footprint, less polution, cleaner air and a cleaner environment for all. It is far more economical.
September 29, 2011
The benefits of a Brita water filter lays in its ability to filter out heavy metals and other impurities. You save money and also contribute to saving the environment.
September 29, 2011
It is definitely a smarter move to buy a BRITA water filter instead of bottled water for loads of reasons: It is less expensive, the water tastes better, it is better for the enviroment (plastic is TERRIBLE), takes up less space then loads of bottles in the fridge and is way more convenient!
September 29, 2011
I grew up on a farm with natural springs, which were our only water source. Having moved to Cape Town a few years ago, I’ve realized the difference in the taste of water and therefore don’t drink much water apart from bottled water. Having a filtered water jug could change my life, as I love the goodness of water!
September 30, 2011
I envy the idea that BRITA substantially reduces all of these substances, making your water taste great and giving you confidence in the quality of the water you and your family consume.
September 30, 2011
Going the Brita way is one more step in reducing our carbon footprint, so not only will you have great tasting, clean water for you and your children, but your children will live in a much better place. Choosing Brita is choosing health for you, your family, and our planet
September 30, 2011
Saving the environment from empty bottles and petrol used to transport the bottled water [from source to shop]and it is so convenient – always fresh water on tap.
September 30, 2011
Who knows what really goes into bottled water and there have been studies that indicate that bottled water is not necessarly the best. With Brita at least you can trust that you getting better quality and safe water for the family to consume. Added benefits – helping out the environment definitely less of a carbon footprint and leaving a few extra rands in our pockets.
September 30, 2011
BRITA water filter is just the better ,more convient and selfless choice
September 30, 2011
Everyone needs to work together to make a difference to save the planet. I used to think that drinking bottled water is ok if you recycled the bottle, but have realised that an enormous amount of water goes into that process and that we need to find better alternatives, such as the BRITA water filter!
September 30, 2011
Great tasting healthy water in a stylish desktop jug
October 1, 2011
My family is big on water , rather than fizzy drinks and juices. Having water straight from a Brita jug would be an added bonus cos it’s so healthy.
October 1, 2011
I’ve had two experiences of particles floating in sealed bottled water.
I now carry my water from home, which is boiled water. Having a Brita would be awesome and it’s large capacity size. How convenient!
October 1, 2011
It is by far more economical and also environmental friendly and convenient to use a Brita jug! Save eater and the planet use Brita! I want one! 🙂
October 1, 2011
Saves you a TON of money, is far better for the environment and the healthiest way to have water 🙂
October 1, 2011
Bottled water, particularly flavoured water, tends to be expensive. It contains non-nutritive sweetners which are recommended for diabetics & the health conscious community, however insufficient studies have been conducted to determine the long-term effects of a high consumption of artificial sweeteners. It is thus recommended to consume bottled water or any fluid containing the above mentioned, in moderation. As a dietician, I recommend tap water instead of bottled water because it is inexpensive & eco- friendly.Investing in Brita however is a once payment that reaps lifetime benefits. It is healthy and safe. It filters impurities that can cause a build up of toxins.Brita improves the taste and odour when cooking and is eco-friendly since it prevents the build-up of limescale in kettles.
October 2, 2011
Bottled water is very pricy and as a family of 5 storage becomes a very large problem. by having the water jug it is more practical over the bottle water as the jug can be reused instead of being thrown out creating less of a ecological effect on the environment, the filters can also be replaced at a cheaper cost then buying additional bottles. it is also more convenient to quickly refill a bottle then it is to run out to the shops
October 2, 2011
its better, easier and healthier than tap water.
October 2, 2011
It’s a smarter move to buy a BRITA water filter instead of bottled water not only because bottled water is so expensive and way too overly priced, but also because bottled water has a very large carbon footprint, leaving many empty plastic bottles polluting our planet, and because having a BRITA water filter in my home will definitely make my little 3-year-old drink a whole lot more water than she does at the moment! Why? If it takes out the awful chlorine taste of the water, never mind all the other beneficial qualities (such as reducing heavy metals, like lead, mercury and aluminum, in the water) my little girl will most definitely want to drink more H2O! 😉 Here’s to good health, here’s to BRITA!
October 3, 2011
When you use Bottle water you dont really know if what they say on the label are true but if you purify your own water you know what you drink is 100 persent safe for you and your family, and so much cheaper in the long run.
October 3, 2011
get the best water from home and costing a little
October 3, 2011
As inhabitants of this earth, it’s our duty to protect it along with the natural resources it so kindly makes available to us. It’s time we gave back to the environment by reducing our carbon footprints whether it be at the work place or at home. Using a filter jug allows us to do just that. By doing so, we won’t only be saving ourselves money, but inevitably saving the world we live in. So here it is, Brita has given us the opportunity to be the heroes. Save our planet and go Brita. It starts with us.
October 3, 2011
As inhabitants on this earth, it’s our duty to protect it as well as the many natural resources it so kindly makes available to us. Many of us when greeted with the term ‘carbon footprint’ tend to become overwhelmed with the concept and choose to ignore the issue. Thanks to Brita’s domestic water filter range, we are now able to adopt a greener lifestyle. Not only will we be saving money in the process, but also reducing our carbon footprint one person at a time. So here it is, our chance to be the modern day heroes by putting our environment and our health first. Make the right choice…
Go brilliant, go BRITA.

Simply lekke!

Simply lekke!!!

If we are able to trust the water we get from home (by using Brita water filter) why should we go to the shop and spend a fortune (over time its expensive) on buying water.
It is just a waste of money and that money could be spent on something very important like education and health.
Another thing is that the more bottles of water we buy the more plastic needs to be produced… In the long run its bad for the environment – pollution etc.
With money being as tight as it we all need to be more careful without compromising our health – therefore Brita water filter is so much better than buying bottled water.
October 3, 2011
It will save me a fortune with my using the Brita Jug than buying bottled water every day. Also, there will be less litter thrown around after the use of the plastic bottles…
October 4, 2011
both my kiddies age 8 and 5 love drinking water and this would really be beneficial to them
October 4, 2011
One can now drink purified water a a fraction of the cost. Great value for money withput compromising one’s health or well being.
October 4, 2011
“How did we get to the point where we’re paying for bottled water? That must have been some weird marketing meeting over in France. Some French guys sitting there, like, ‘How dumb do I think the Americans are? I bet you we could sell those idiots water.’” – American Comedian Jim Gaffigan
Let’s close the tap on unnecessary expense – to our health, our pockets, and our Earth…and let’s do it stylishly. 🙂
Thanks Brita!
October 4, 2011
Drink clean water without breaking the bank with Brita
October 5, 2011
Brita water filters will save you money in the long run, reduce your carbon footprint, and increase the value of your family’s health and wellbeing.
October 5, 2011
It’s smarter to buy a Brita filter than use bottled water because it’s cheaper and greener too! And to me, much healthier!
October 5, 2011
Its so unesessary to buy bottled water when it isnt that good to begin with, its unesessary bottles standing around where i can have one jug with water!
October 5, 2011
Will definitely taste better and more safer ;o)
October 5, 2011
Economic and nicer to our planet & our bodies
October 6, 2011
less chlorine in the water and much more healthier than normal tap water.
October 6, 2011
We need to reduce our carbon footprint and Brita enables us to do so easily!!!
October 7, 2011
Economically, it would be easier to fill a Brita jug with water and still drink pure water, rather buy lots of uneccessary bottles of water … For me, drinking water from a tumbler, is more refreshing than drinking from a bottle, anyway … 🙂
October 7, 2011
It’s so much easier to have a jug of purified water, than having all these bottles lying around ^_^
October 7, 2011
Besides being a healthier option, it’s so much more economical!
October 7, 2011
Brita is more economical and you can store more water in it for the day!
October 7, 2011
Some of us dont really care about drinking water safely as long as the water is running in the tap. My family and i are always safe and we are terrified of contracting sickness but with brita filter we dont have to worry about anything and its environmentally safe for my baby girl.
October 7, 2011
With a Brita water bottle system I would not have to buy distilled water for my family any more as this would help get the water that comes from the tap to be just as good. It will save money and be right there when you need it. Especially with having two little girls who absolutely love drinking water.
October 7, 2011
THEY ARE A HEALTHY OPTION. I HAVE ONE!
October 7, 2011
water is important in my family we had a huge scare last month when my very healthy 30year old hubby was diagnosed with renal failure from not drinking water! Buying the Brita jug would reassure me and my family of 5 that we are getting clean filtered water and saving as well!
October 8, 2011
The water in our area is not really drinkable and so I have to buy bottled water for my family to drink. Would love to have the Brita jug and have safe water to drink without having all the plastic bottles.
November 15, 2011
By using a filtered jug, it reduces your carbon footprint. Bottled water is expensive, and the bottles have to be disposed of, which adds to your carbon footprint. It is eco-friendly as well as cost effective to use a BRITA water jug!
February 7, 2013
the first time i saw the jug it was at my friend’s place the water was like the one from the source i just wish that 1 day i wil bought 1 for but i haven’t but i wil get it.
