Build it green – part 21

Wow! That was my impression of the site this week. So much seems to have happened suddenly.  The cornicings we chose last week were ordered, delivered, and installed in a week! Not only that, the electrical cables have all been pulled through the ceilings so that we can see where all our little down-lights and other fittings are going to be, and…. the ceilings have been painted!  That light, airy feel from last week is now compounded with the white ceilings – beautiful!

We had a bit of a headache with the main bathroom. We have reconfigured it a million times, and the plumber had soldered all his pipes in place, but when the spa bath arrived, we realised that the access point to the piping was against the wall. We spent a headachey day trying to figure out how to redo the layout. We finally got it sorted, but our poor plumber is going to have to redo his inlet and outlet pipes.

Apart from headache days, my hubby had a sleepless night this week too. He woke at midnight with the sudden realisation that the gas pipes have not yet been laid, and they were supposed to go in the ceiling. Our beautiful, white, completed ceiling! He phoned Tiaan first thing the next day, and they have decided to chase the floor and run the gas pipes through the floor. Luckily the screed is quite thick, and, with the vermiculite, it will not be too difficult to chase.

Apparently the municipal inspector finally showed up. He has passed all the plumbing works, but was not too happy that everything was hidden inside the walls. I guess this build is also a bit new for him. If we ever have to access the pipes, we just take down a panel. Not like bashing down a brick wall. It looks so beautiful and neat. Finally he insisted that only the exhaust pipe be exposed, and the rest he referred to the site engineer who was happy with the design.

Our heat pump geyser has arrived too. Unfortunately, it arrived without any instructions for installation, so it is sitting in the garage at present. It is tall and silver, and looks pretty chic. Not that that matters at all, Tiaan and Nardi designed a lovely hidey-hole under the stairs that will accommodate both the geyser and the solar inverter. Thus both will be very easy to access, and they are well hidden, and insulated (noise and heat)!

Well, in a few minutes, we will be off to the site to choose paint colours! Wish us luck with our poor decorating skills…
