Build it green – part 24

Written by admin

We had our own festival of lights the other evening. Our electricity has been connected and we are literally “live”. We stood on the pavement hand-in-hand and admired our (still unpainted) home.  The entrance has three gorgeous downlights twinkling above the garage doors, and three side lights illuminating the staircase. A very welcoming picture.

On the inside, our great arachnid-type chandelier has been installed.  It was a pretty complicated creature to put together, taking two days to figure out! Now that it is in place, however, it looks perfect!  We also chose different lights for the “great room”. Our first choice was way too small for the area; they looked like little bumps on the ceiling, so now we have chosen much more modern hanging fittings, which complement the “classically modern” theme.

The other exciting news is that our solar panels have arrived. They should be installed in the next few days! And then we hope to be minimally reliant on Eskom – YAY!

We made some last minute adjustments to our finishings, adding a whole lot of extra tiling where we had originally planned carpeting. This tiling was finished a day later, thus our flooring is now almost complete.

Our bathrooms are also slowly taking shape, though there is still a fair amount of work needed.

The last two weeks have seen mostly interior work being done, and not much on the exterior. We have been promised that the interior should be complete in a week’s time, and then the focus can shift externally. That said, we have had a bit of action outside. Jane Moseley (from Jane Moseley Landscaping) has brought her team in to start levelling in preparation for the garden, and preparation for the boundary wall started yesterday too. Once the paving is in place it should start looking livable.

Well, we have started a count-down to the big move, so I only have a few entries left. I can’t wait to show you the final pictures of our very special LSF home.
