Warmth, elegance and comfort were the principal considerations when this project came into effect, and what began as an idea quickly transformed into a journey, which allowed multiple suppliers to work together to achieve the end result. These home owners wished to veer away from the modern guise and opted for a more classic look, resulting in a picturesque French colonial home.

They had a clear idea of what they wanted when embarking on the design of this home. Easy living without being too big saw a combination of open-plan designs, attention to detail, as well as light and airflow.

Construction company, Razz Project’s Charlene Stadler notes that this home has a lovely open-plan living feel, is flooded with light, and the overall flow of the house can be attributed to solid design principles. The design, in turn, appealed to the home owners because it was different to the other plans they saw as well as the other properties in the estate.

The estate itself does not have very big stands, and like many estates, has strict guidelines in terms of architecture and how one builds. As a result, only a portion of the land was utilised, and the stand was chosen because of the views of the dam and golf course.

“My husband is a great golf enthusiast so he gets pleasure out of living here,” notes the home owner. As for her favourite aspects, it is the heart of the home that comes to mind.

“I always wanted a French country kitchen; it is easy to work in and I never feel separated from my family and guests.” The Kitchen Studio designed this, along with the built-in cupboards and vanities in the bedroom, by keeping within client specifications while maintaining the high quality the company is known for. The rest of the home fitted perfectly with the French theme, from the flooring and lighting to the use of wood, fabrics and every detail in between. Metal Sculpting was responsible for the exquisite balustrading, which enhances the French theme and creates a jeweled effect that runs throughout the home. The balustrades also accentuate the neutral colours and natural-inspired fabrics in the home.

The warmth and elegance that was desired by the owners of this luxury chateau was achieved through the Home Fires vent-free gas fireplace, which brings the warmth of wood fires without the need to have vents for your fireplace. Of course, security and convenience were also considered with the DoorZone Gemini garage door automation system, which ensures safety and comes with a battery backup in case the power goes out.

One of the greatest beauties of this home is that there are eye-catching aspects at every well-spaced corner. Every single feature emphasises and enhances the classic French appeal, creating a European country house with the added benefit of being located in South Africa with its great climate.

From superb artwork and grand columns to luxurious upholstery and the finest fabrics, this home brings Provencal living into this charming estate.
