Having the good fortune to transform one’s lifestyle from luxury apartment living in the city, to outdoor living in Ballito, takes some organising.

And when the plan comes together, as seen in this contemporary-style home in the Zimbali Coastal Resort in Ballito, it makes for ideal relaxation amid wonderfully pleasing visual aesthetics and stylish comfort.

Although the owner is no newcomer to the demands of a new housing project, she says this is her family’s first experience of living away from the city. Close proximity to the KZN coastline and secure outdoor living became the draw card for creating a second home.

They are now able to enjoy the natural surroundings of greenery and roaming wildlife, as well as entertainment offerings of the estate, including a golf course, sport facilities and a soon to be completed gymnasium.

This successful project was designed by architect Ronnie Watson, referred by mutual friends, and built by Stedone Projects, after going out on a construction tender. This immaculately finished building reflects the incorporation of the clients’ need for convenient outdoor living in a sub-tropical climate, while enjoying the natural surroundings from the interior of the house. The exterior design of this modern Balinese structure allows the outdoors to create a seamless frame, where rich combinations of timber and stone become visual features along the outer walls, rooftop and around window and door spaces. Energy-saving features include deep undercover outdoor spaces, from the ground level patio to overhangs on upper levels, where shaded areas provide natural flow of cool air during hot summer months. Also fitting with the outdoor theme is the custom-designed swimming pool built by Bluelake Pools, where the pool floor is lined with the owners’ personal choice of glass mosaic tiles.

Looking from the outside in reflects a visual and functional perspective in a “contemporary and simple elegant style of design”, the result of cohesion between client and professional interior designer, Fahrenheit Design. The joint efforts of skilled design and decor contractors are visible in the clean lines and uncluttered spaces, such as the use of rectangular form both in the interior and exterior areas. Subtle combinations of glass and steel can be seen throughout, from the front door through to the entrance hall, where the staircase and timber partition add yet another dimension to the modern aesthetics of this home.

Quality fittings and appliances are illuminated through custom-designed lighting solutions by Lumine Lighting.

To conclude the elegant yet comfortable interior theme throughout the living areas of this homely environment ideal for easy living, are superior-quality flooring finishes installed by Maxwell Carpets.

The owner says this family’s love affair with Zimbali continues after they stumbled across a plot with a sea view, fit for another coastal dream home.
