From the onset of its design, the owners of this Irene home wanted to create a residence that was both warm and welcoming. They wanted a place that would speak to them; and what they envisioned it would say was, “come in, put your feet up, and just relax”.

“We wanted a home where people would arrive and automatically feel at home. It needed to be open and spacious in the warm months but warm and cosy during winter,” say the owners, who enjoy being able make a fire and work, watch TV in the warm living room on cold nights, or simply open up all the doors to enjoy a cool breeze in the summertime.

Even though the house was built in accordance with strict guidelines of the estate, it still has its own personality with somewhat of an old fashioned country style and a slight hint of farmhouse living.

The owners say they borrowed a little bit from every home that they’ve lived in and applied those ideas to this house. Having seen what works in the past and what doesn’t, they were able put ideas together that became the blueprint for what is now their dream home. The interior is minimalist yet welcoming in its modesty, with a colour palette that matches the exterior. Browns, beiges and whites make up the colour palette for the floors, cabinetry and walls; while the rooms are free of clutter, with only the bedside tables and lamps as decor.

On why they chose this particular location, the home owners said they just love the Irene area. “The estate itself is situated on the historical Irene dairy farm and you immediately get the country feel when you enter the main gates. The estate not only offers top security, it also has a community feel about it. Being situated in Irene means that you are very centrally located to all the big business centres,” say the owners.

And that is what the owners love the most – having the best of both worlds. That is, being situated close to the city, while being able to experience the quiet and calmness of the countryside.
