When embarking on the design of their home, these owners envisioned a home unlike any other, one which seamlessly commingled indoor with outdoor living, producing a country-like atmosphere. “I have always wanted a home that had living areas which led directly onto the pool and entertainment area,” explains the owner. “It was also my desire to have an open-plan living area to entertain guests.”

Following the clients’ brief, the architect created an open-plan environment while simultaneously keeping public spaces defined. Fold-away stack doors were ingeniously used to eliminate the boundary which separated the outdoors from the indoors.

Together with the help of M and M Designs, and after spending several months shopping for just the right mix of furniture, the residents transformed the once bland and lifeless canvas into a crescendo of colour, vibrancy and light. Primarily adorned with wood furniture – which creates a warm ambience in the home – the interior spaces speak of an elegant simplicity with a neutral tile palette creating an eye-pleasing contrast against the wood and dark furnishings.

The simple yet sleek lines of the interior spaces become the predominant focal point of a country-themed design, with natural materials such as wood balancing the contemporary with the country. Soft finishes used throughout introduce colour to the otherwise neutral ambience of the home.

The trusses significantly enhance the central theme throughout the house, and in the main living areas create the illusion of amplified space, linking and combining the lounge, dining and kitchen areas immaculately.

The kitchen is designed in such a way that it becomes part of the main living spaces, with the kitchen island becoming the adjoining boundary where one room ends and the other begins. What makes this design so different from many other open-plan living spaces is that the kitchen extends past the boundary of the island, creating a seamless flow from one room to the next.

Equipped with the latest appliances and adorned with wood throughout, this room echoes country living at its finest. This space is ergonomic in design, ensuring an efficient and smooth flow. The simplistic design commingled with a light palette is greatly complemented against the silver appliances, elevating the serene ambience of the room. The main bedrooms and bathrooms follow suit, decorated with a sophisticated elegance, yet these spaces are minimalistic in approach so as to not detract from the beauty of the surrounds. “I felt awestruck the first time I walked into my completed home,” says the owner, “at how the large, open spaces made me feel and the warmth which the wood exudes”.
