One of the challenges of this project, says Wareeth Botha of Mowa Construction, was that during the construction process, water levels in Constantia were as high as one metre below ground level.
A de-watering process had to be carried out in order to work in a dry area four metres below ground level, which created access from the pool deck outside to the wine cellar and steam room on the basement level. Working in co-operation with Swissline Design and Timber Construction, which also carried out extensive work on this project, an impressive spiral staircase in stainless steel and timber was designed, manufactured and installed going down into this area.
Built on two levels, the house has several balconies from where you can admire the beautiful views across Constantia to Newlands. One of these balconies features glass walls, installed to provide light to the undercover veranda below. The glass panels, which were made to be waterproof, were fitted into the veranda roof through careful engineering. This feature creates an unusually interesting veranda, where the “ceiling” is finished in beautiful face bricks.
Fine finishes in the interior include quality timber inlays into travertine floors, and a collection of fabulous furniture enhances the central fireplace and works of art.
While this lovely Southern Suburbs home exudes quality and sophistication in every nook and cranny, these lucky owners also possess a haven filled with luxury and tranquillity.
