It is not every day that you come across a house that is truly inspired by nature but at a same time remains elegant and chic. From its striking landscaping through to finishes and interior decor – every aspect of this home was inspired by the owner’s love for all things natural.

The home owner selected this particular house over others because of the open characteristic of the layout and architectural design that brings the outdoors indoors.

An excellent example of this architectural principle can be seen in one of the owner’s favourite spaces – the patio area. This area effortlessly flows onto the contemporary-styled garden with a tranquil pool, manicured lawns and an expanse of trees. “When I first walked through the first floor of this house, I looked out the window and saw these big trees and I felt like I was in a forest in Knysna,” says the owner. Her love for trees can be seen throughout the interiors through the finishes and some decorative elements.

The owner artistically created a feature wall, in one of the bedrooms, using raw bark for an organic yet elegant effect. Describing her style, she says it is “the rough with the shine, like a stone placed next to fine crystal”.

The interior design and decor is clean and uncluttered. An earthy palette of hues complements the organic style of the home. One of the many interesting design elements of the home is the contemporary-styled kitchen.

This space harmoniously blends dark wooden cabinetry with white countertops and steel finishes – creating an overall effect that is indeed striking. A feature wall with tree branches carries the theme of nature, while adding softness to this culinary space.
