When the owners of this beautiful Durban North home commented on their newly renovated, open-plan living spaces, they did so with gratitude and appreciation. For them, coming home to such blissful comfort remains a special experience.
The appointment by the owners of their interior designer and decorator, Andre Kleynhans of Andre Kleynhans Interiors, resulted in a well-managed project that provided an all- encompassing service.
They say Andre appointed trusted professionals from the initial architectural design stages, to contractors for the total revamp of the kitchen and finer finishes, furniture, artwork, drapery and soft furnishings. Andre says that although no major structural changes were necessary, except for the removal of some interior walls, what was achieved and in line with his clients’ brief is optimal flow and a sense of space.
For Andre, some of the many special elements he enjoyed sourcing here include a number of custom-made items commissioned from various artists and crafts people. One such piece taking pride of place is the designer dining room table. Essentially a sculpted work of art, the table was created from recycled metal farm implements and the timber of a 100-year-old oak tree, weighing in at exactly 850kg.
Other beautiful features he says, are the custom-made chandelier with resin birds, and the super large mirror panels created to give warmth to the extra high spaces of the entrance hall. For him it was an absolute pleasure to source and manage superior quality applications by contractors throughout, including sumptuous quantities of drapery and soft furnishings by Perfect Finish. Possibly the most central point of entertainment in their home, say this couple, is their designer kitchen by The Kitchen Studio. which has become a treasured space central to their
daily lives.
