Felt creations

Written by Janine Jorgensen

One of the movements happening in the design community right now is looking to nature for inspiration.

For South African textile designer Ronel Jordaan, this isn’t a new concept. Since 2003, she began using felt as a medium, coaxing the wool into shapes in nature that inspire her.

Her signature pebble cushions, available in a range of sizes, have been liked by interior designers both here and abroad, while some of her other innovative creations include felt floral wall units for sound proofing and bowls made of wool. A latest design is the sea anemone stool, a fun addition to a seating area.

The processes Ronel uses in her workshop are eco-friendly – even the grey water is used to grow vegetables on the factory grounds for her assistants to take home, and, of course, the wool is proudly South African.
