While the bath and shower are obvious areas of focus when planning your bathroom, taps and basins should not be overlooked. Basins and taps are the finishing touch to any bathroom, and will complement the rest of the interior.

As with most decor pieces, mixing and matching basins and taps can result in an eye-catching creation, and some manufacturers have joined forces to present complete solutions, explains Frida Tugnoli of Italtile.

With numerous styles of basin available, choosing the perfect one for your ultimate bathroom should be fairly easy. An important thing to keep in mind is to purchase your basin first, as this is a good starting point and one to expand from for the rest of the bathroom interior.

Peter Jefferson of On Tap provides some insight and information into basin styles available: The classic/timeless basin is simple in design, and when complemented by a basin mixer spout affixed to the wall, ensures a look which will never go out of style or grow drab.

Traditional pedestal/wall-mounted basins can be used with hot and cold turn-style taps fixed on the basin, and are fitted to the wall from the back or a pedestal from the base.
