Rising design star Donald Nxumalo recently teamed up with Hertex to produce a collection that reflects Joburg’s exciting diversity and unique cultural rhythm.

Millennials are masters of collaboration; they know how to share ideas, and relish working as a team to create something unique. Talented interior designer Donald Nxumalo is no different. He recently teamed up with Hertex to design the A-list, a collection that reflects the unique personality of Egoli, the City of Gold.

What to expect

The look: The collection features a bold, opulent fusion of colour, texture and pattern.
Vinyls, sheers and velvets personify Jozi’s unique energy and glamour. “I love texture, as it adds a certain richness to a scheme. And, of course, you can’t think of Joburg without glamorous metallic and sparkles.” Of the unexpected colour palette, Donald says: “I was drawn to colour combinations I wouldn’t normally use, like navy blue and acid yellow, which work so beautifully.”

About the designer

The young designer’s stellar career is filled with highlights. He won SABC 3’s Win a Home competition in 2014, where upcoming designers competed for the coveted position of preferred designer for Steyn City, the rising residential metropolis on the outskirts of Joburg. “All I wanted was to get into the Top 10. The next thing I knew I was in the Top 4 and then I won,” he notes of his success.

After winning the competition, his career skyrocketed in a Jozi heartbeat. Trips to Los Angeles and greater Africa followed. With every trip and design, Donald’s client list multiplied.

The new colab with Hertex shows yet another layer of Donald’s talent.
