A happy place

Going to nursery school just got a hundred times more exciting for the little people of Athens in Greece. This flawless renovation by Greek architectural firm, Porplusma Arkitektones, pays homage to a world of make-believe, a modern real-life fairytale, where children are stimulated, inspired and encouraged to interact fully with their surroundings.

It does help that this established nursery school, by the name of Nipiaki Agogi Anna Raftopoulou, resides in a 1900’s stone villa that already resembles castle-like qualities, focusing on a Minoic flavour of Ancient Greece.

The project architects, Eugenia Manta and Michail Provelengios, found the task quite a challenging one. “We wanted to create a space that will embrace the children and allow them a great deal of spaciousness and flexibility”. The result is an articulated response to the historic building, enhancing particular features to add that essence of magic kids directly respond to.

The introduction of colour is mainly grounded to the floor, with natural textures and monochromatic murals making up the other elements to this contemporary re-design. Simplistic and set back storage plus wall-mounted seating keep the design uncomplicated, making way for large expanses of flooring that the kids can play, run, or roll on.

Above all, I can imagine the kindergarten has each parent swooning over the interiors, transporting them back to their own childhoods and the adventures of growing up.

Best wishes,

Jess from Hector and Bailey
