I am currently looking into different home automation options. Does home automation have to be expensive?

Gizelle Fischer, Electrosonic: Home automation doesn’t have to be expensive, on condition that the system is well planned and designed, and is not just an after-thought when building or renovating a home. Basic home automation could include audio distribution, security, lighting and video, or water features. Some systems are upgradable, others are not, so it is important that some research is done to see what is available on the market. It is also important for the home owner/user to decide what they want to achieve and what their needs are.

For some, security is a high priority, for others it may be audio distribution or keeping an eye on the little ones.
A basic system will, in general, include a processor, a touchpanel and/or keypads and dimmers. Designing the system properly means that not only will you have automation, but also a home that is energy-efficient.
