The last move

Time is a luxury very few can afford, but, in this case, the home owner was not in a rush when it came to building his home. The three-year project took into account, and mapped out, every intricate detail.

“I had a very clear image of the type of home I wanted. I thought everything out well and often suggested changes throughout the building process,” the home owner says. He was adamant that this would be the last house he would move into, so it had to be perfect.

The property is on a slope, which the architect interpreted into a two-level house with sufficient space for guests and pets: four dogs and plenty of koi and goldfish. The lower level of the house comprises a large dining area, TV room, kitchen and home theatre, while the upper level takes care of the bedrooms and home gym.

The style of the house is minimalist, where key accessories and furniture pieces add contrast and depth. Much of the furniture was custom-made to suit the unique space.

Convenience is everything to the home owner; the master bedroom has a his-and-hers bathroom, and each guest bedroom a bathroom and walk-in closet.

An avid collector of oriental rugs, the home owner has covered his floors with some of his favourites, while his modern art paintings break the clinical white of the walls. The home enjoys plenty of natural light, with skylights bringing in the sun through the double-volume area.

“My favourite room in the home has to be the home cinema; the sound in that room is fantastic,” the home owner exclaims. It’s no surprise that this room was a finalist in the CEDIA Best Home Theatre Awards.
