Liza in Beirut restaurant, East Beirut

Written by Jess Binns

The recently opened Liza in Beirut restaurant, situated in the stylish suburb of Achrafieh, East Beirut, is so utterly beautiful I can’t stop looking at photos of it. The regal touches of this 19th century palace have been carefully blended with a whimsical approach, pushing the space into fairytale realms.

The second of Liza Asseily’s restaurants to come to fruition, the Liza in Beirut is a tribute to the Middle Eastern cuisine served at the restaurant and is proving very popular since it’s opening earlier this year. Talented designer, Maria Ousseimi who is responsible for the interiors say:

We did not get obsessive about the design…Everything is a bit tongue in cheek; delightful and somewhat impish.

Alongside the backdrop of creamy neutral tones, bespoke wallpapers by Arjumand have been used to zone the restaurant. Both owner and designer wanted to reflect the true Lebanese history and culture of the location, so this resulted in the creation of four rooms with distinctive themes: The Main room, Banana room, Money room and the Building room.

Every room stands alone and yet plays a part in the bigger composition. Liza in Beirut is welcoming, inviting…Moments are savoured and prolonged…Liza in Beirut feels like a place where one wishes to live.

Even though this restaurant resides in palatial grounds, the homely feel does shine through, making Liza in Beirut all the more unique.

One day I’ll pay a visit…

Best wishes, Jess from Hector and Bailey
