Make the most out of your kitchen space

By Sungula Nkabinde

We would all love to have a dream kitchen, with ample space, which becomes a haven that inspires culinary masterpieces. However some kitchens are small and this makes it difficult to incorporate your design ideas without leaving the room feeling cramped and crowded.

Make the best possible use of every spare inch, nook and cranny by using pull-out drawers and inners to best maximise the available space. Here are some tips, courtesy of Blum, to help you get the best out of your kitchen.

Determine your own personal storage space requirements: This will vary from person to person, according to your cooking and shopping habits, as well as your lifestyle.

Make a list of everything that you would like to fit into your kitchen: Not everything has to be kept in the kitchen. Make sure to prioritise the essentials and put other items in the pantry, for example.

Buy smaller appliances: There are many companies that are now making smaller appliances that are ideal for the more compact kitchen. Compact ovens, dishwashers and cooker tops are now available in stores everywhere, which can suit your particular spatial needs.
