Contemporary, stylish and modern living has been beautifully showcased in an exhibition space in a Cape Town seaside suburb. Blok Urban Apartment Living has seven apartment buildings spread across Cape Town’s Atlantic seaboard and City Bowl. Each has a unique exterior with modern, minimalistic design in the interiors.

Nature and the environment serve as one of the architects’ biggest inspirations: “Sometimes the best designer on the planet is the planet itself.” This phrase comes to life in both the interior and exterior design of the apartment blocks. The interior design of the homes is kept simple and modern, finished in tonal colours and exhibiting flow, comfort and spaciousness. The simple design gives the apartment longevity and widespread appeal; the prospective owner is an urban dweller in any life stage.

The exhibition space was introduced in order to demonstrate this design and feel to prospective owners, and for a comprehensive appreciation of all of the apartment blocks in one space.

Interactive display units and magazines produced by Blok for each individual apartment block act as guides for future home owners. Here, one is introduced to Blok’s concept of “the neighbourhood”, and how the location of each block was specifically chosen, with a wealth of lifestyle locations within a radius that can be easily walked.

Taking it a step further, each block is mapped at its location, with these points of interest flagged around them, measured by how many steps it would take a home owner to reach them – for instance, 35 steps to the local grocer, or 100 steps to the nearest school, park, art gallery or restaurant.

This has been done in an effort to encourage home owners to walk through their neighbourhoods and wholly immerse themselves in them, rather than drive between destinations and miss out on everything in between.

“Home is where you’ll find your butcher, your baker and your flat-white maker,” says Blok, reinforcing its back-to-basics values, which it has merged with the elegance of modern urbanity.
