Located on a farm estate where nature plays a vital role, and where living life in a green and eco-conscious manner is the order of the day, the residents of this impressive home wanted to create a dwelling that was different and unique.
The brief for the design of the home also stated that the architect had to design the house in such a way that it had to capture as much of the mountain views and surrounding landscape as possible. According to the home owners, the home also had to allow ample natural light in, and in order to achieve this, the architect designed the structure of the home so that all of the rooms are north facing.
Taking all of the above requests into the consideration, architect Philip Briel of Philip Briel Architect, went on to design a home that suited these residents perfectly. The architect came up with the concept of having two barns connected, and from there it quickly evolved into two steel structures.
The north-facing facade brings in as much of the views and light as possible and the south side of the home offers the owners cooler areas that will ultimately assist them with cooling down the entire home. In terms of the layout of the home, Philip created a single level house with an open-plan design. All of the open living areas are to one side of the house while the bedrooms can be found on another side, offering the residents privacy whenever it is required.
The interior spaces are a textural and visual feast for anyone who walks across the threshold of the home. Muted tones are complemented by an assortment of fabrics with an end result that proves that comfort and practicality can indeed be fashionable and chic as well. The furniture throughout the home was selected not only for its functionality but also ensures that this home will always remain in vogue.
An example of the excellent use of materials can be seen in the common living areas, where the ceilings showcase exposed wooden beams while the floors are made from natural tiles. In these areas, the preferred colour palette comprises natural earthy tones that have been heightened with smaller accents of colour.
“We were greatly surprised at how well everything turned out in the end and we have to give credit to the entire team that helped with the creation of this home, especially the architect and interior designer as they really did a great job for us,” say the owners.
