Nespresso Pixie Clips review

Written by Janine Jorgensen

This week at the SA Home Owner headquarters, we’ve used any excuse for coffee time as we tried out the new Nespresso Pixie Clips machine with the Aeroccino milk frother.

Why the coffee-maker is different from the original Pixie is that it has adjustable side panels, so you can customise its look. It still has two settings for a small (40ml) or larger (110ml) sized cup of coffee, with a drip-grid and cup support all-in-one.

What we loved: Its compact size makes the Pixie a flexible choice for any space, from small kitchen, or like us, office desk.

It’s also incredibly easy to use: plug it in, turn it on, insert the capsule, choose your coffee size, and voilà, your coffee is poured through the spout. Add some frothy milk from the Aeroccino frother (which works with just a simple push of a button), and you don’t have to make that cappuccino or latte run to your favourite café.

Plus, we had fun trying out the range of flavours from the Nespresso capsule collection.

Even better, especially if you’ve dealt with the residue of filter machines/plungers, is that the machine is effortless to clean, and the used capsules can be recycled.

Good to know: Maybe it was user error, but occasionally the capsules would get stuck or jammed in the machine and we’d have to begin again, so place them in carefully.

The machine seems to be most suitable for smaller cups of coffee, so if you need a giant mug to start the day or to get through the 2pm slump, you will need more than one capsule, and the cup support will need to be lifted up to accommodate a larger vessel.

Price: Pixie Clips single R2150. With Aeroccino R2750. Additional side panels R175 each.
