More often than not, stipulations and requirements are imposed upon the architect of a house, either from the home owners themselves or from the estate in which they are required to build. The chance to design a home without restrictions is something rare indeed. For PWM Architects, this rare find was a truly inspiring one.

“It was not only a refreshing opportunity but one of our most challenging,” says architect Keith Mason, of PWM Architects. “It is the only way to ensure a client is provided with a truly original design and is the greatest motivation for any architect to be truly creative.”

The client, however, did have one stipulation: the desire for a modern-looking home. Undertaking the challenge successfully, the architects provided the client with their envisioned dream with passion and professionalism. One can accurately describe this home as a unique fusion of contemporary nature and out-of-the-box creativity. The interior is an extension of the exterior. “Inside and outside spaces are treated with equal importance and the transition between them can sometimes be a little blurred,” adds Keith.

Although large in appearance the home was designed to incorporate interconnected living spaces. The open-plan design contributes to the seamless flow of the home, while at the same time has well defined areas demarcating the start of a new living space. With no definite theme to the interior design, each living space exudes its own character and desirability.

The eye-catching palette of reds, blues, and yellows is excellently contrasted with the classic browns, whites and greys expressing the home’s unique and individual character. A mixed palette of bright tones commingled with earthy hues throughout the interior creates not only a perfect balance, but adds an element of excitement to the overall ambience.

Making this home exceptionally unique is the rooftop garden, which is not only indigenous by nature but brings an extra element of vibrancy to the property as a whole with its winding pathways and design. Serving a dual purpose, the rooftop garden also acts as insulation for the interior below, as well as providing breathtaking views of the surrounds.

A contemporary home of the 21st century which exudes more than style and comfort is attainable; all you need is ingenuity, creativity and the vision to see it come to pass.
