This unique home, situated in the heart of Johannesburg, sees the marriage of two distinctive styles: antique and modern. The home owners have a common interest in art, but had to oversee a blend in two avenues that could not be more different. The result was a perfect combination of contemporary elegance.

The three-year project began not too long ago, where two people decided to live in a place that would merge their separate passions. Due to the nature of antiques, the one owner had everything he needed, as he had been collecting South African antiques for many years.

All that was left to do was to purchase more modern furniture to satisfy the tastes of the lady of the house. With the help of a skilled interior designer, the project soon blossomed into a colourful and luxurious abode. Of course, the home isn’t the only thing that one needs to consider in terms of property.

Sometimes, it really comes down to location. This particular estate is renowned for its stunning, panoramic views and lush landscaping.

It is situated on a pristine golf estate, and the house is close to the club house, which is a bonus for the man of the home, an avid golf enthusiast. As with any golf estate, of course, flora, fauna and wildlife are always abundant and this makes this location a wonderful place to wake up in.

The lighting also plays an important role in this home. Well-placed light fittings feature throughout the house, and highlight the many beautiful aspects of the home.

Apart from the lighting, natural light is a highlight since the sunshine literally pours into the home, making these interior spaces absolutely impressive.

In order to keep these residents comfortable throughout the year, key elements were incorporated into the design including a magnificent fireplace that sits in the living area, warm and inviting for any guest. But while we still have sunshine and solar heat, Home Fires supplied this home with its versatile 1200 combo dual-purpose braai – making the abode truly South African.

The lady of the house says that the kitchen is her favourite room. She simply loves the bold green colour in the culinary area, which gives it a sense of panache and makes it rather daring in aesthetics.

Offering some advice for future home owners, the couple says: “Do not settle for second best; find what you really want.”

Remember that it is your home, the place that you live in, and therefore it has to be absolutely perfect according to you.
